Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Episode 8 Recap
Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Episode 8 sees Mack make good on his deal with Sarge… in a way. Mack agrees to let Sarge pick one of his crew members to go with him in the truck to take down the Shrike, but Mack is sending Daisy and May along with him. Sarge selects Snowflake, but also needs Pax to fix the broken tech on the truck that masks it from the Shrike. Mack won’t let Sarge’s team outnumber the agents aboard the truck, so he sends Deke along to help fix the device.
Eastbound and Down
Aboard the truck, Deke and Snowflake hook up once Deke has the device working. However, the device is patched together with what little bit Deke could find aboard the truck. As the team arrives at their destination — a field where the Shrike hosts are congregating and calling to their creator, the device fails again. Sarge sets Deke to repairing it again while he shows Daisy and May how the hosts are operating in tandem. The hosts burst, crystallizing, constructing a tower to summon their creator, Izel. The tower is drawing energy from the earth, weakening the planet. When Izel arrives, the tower will burst into countless Shrike, which will infest every living thing on the planet.
Headquarters in the Sky
Mack has Pax and Jaco loaded and locked down onto the Zephyr. Mack and Yo-Yo are following the truck from the skies, in spite of Sarge’s warning to stay away. Pax in particular is upset that they are following the truck, though Jaco remains cool and says that Sarge has a plan. Meanwhile, Mack and Yo-Yo go over Benson’s reports that connect the monoliths to an Incan mythological creature named Izel, a deity who has escaped a dimension of darkness and left a wake of destruction as she searches for the monoliths.
Pax escapes by killing his guard, freeing himself and Jaco so they can take over the Zephyr and get clear of the truck. Yo-Yo manages to recapture both, leading Pax to spilling Sarge’s secret to Mack. Sarge has a secret weapon for dealing with Izel.
Fitz and Simmons work to re-establish communications and keep the ship together during their trip home. Izel explains that she plans to search for the monoliths once they land. Simmons agrees to help her locate the monolith, though she knows that the three monoliths have been destroyed. While Fitz-Simmons are busy rtying to find a way to contact SHIELD on the earth, Izel infests the rest of the crew with Shrike.
Sarge’s secret weapon is a bomb designed to destroy the tower and Izel’s ship on contact. Sarge escapes from the truck using his teleportation paint device, arriving aboard the Zephyr via a portal painted onto the inside of Jaco’s jacket. The truck is set to auto-drive and headed for the tower with Daisy, May, Deke, and Snowflake still onboard. Deke finds the bomb, but is unsure how to disable it without setting it off. The Zephyr’s crew awaits Mack’s orders — fire on the spacecraft in hopes of destroying it before it lands, though they aren’t able to confirm that Izel is aboard and without any way of knowing that Fitz-Simmons are on the ship, or fire on the truck, killing Daisy, May, and Deke and losing their best weapon for killing Izel. If the truck reaches the tower, it will explode, killing hundreds of thousands but potentially saving the earth and countless other worlds.
Back on Kitson, Enoch makes contacts with another Chromicon archaeologist, Isaiah. Izel and the Shrike destroyed their home planet. Sarge was unable to kill her there. Now, it is time for them and the other archaeologists scattered throughout the universe to assemble what remains of their people and re-establish their race.
