Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 Recap

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 Recap

In the previous episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Jon and Daenerys arrived at Winterfell, followed by Jaime. In Game of Thrones season 8 episode 2, while Jaime’s arrival brought up some complications, Edd, Tormund, and Beric brought news that the Army of the Dead were close, and everyone prepared for battle.

Battle Plan

Jaime stood before Daenerys, Sansa, and Jon to answer for his complicated history with their families. They had reasons to distrust Jaime, but after Brienne vouched for him, Sansa was fine with trusting him. Daenerys questioned Tyrion over why she should trust him as her Hand since he was a fool to believe Cersei would send them her army.

Everyone integral to the military attended a war council meeting. Bran knew that the Night King would be after him and was going to wait in the Godswood as bait. If they took the Night King down, his army would fall. Brienne would be commanding the left flank, and Jaime asked to fight under her command.

That night, Jaime, Tyrion, Davos, Brienne, Podrick, and Tormund sat by a fire and drank wine. Jaime knighted Brienne against tradition, and Podrick sang for them.

What It’s Like

Arya found Gendry at the forge making dragonglass weapons to arm the living against the dead. She showed Gendry the skills she had picked up since they last left each other, and Gendry promised he’d work on the weapon she had commissioned.

After finding the Hound and Beric on a rampart, Arya left them to shoot arrows. Gendry found her and brought her the spear she asked him to make. She asked him about Melisandre, and he explained that he was Robert’s bastard. Arya wanted to know about his experience with women and told him she wanted to know what sex was like before they died. They slept together the night before battle.

Last Ones Standing

When Edd, Beric, and Tormund arrived in Winterfell, they came with news that the Army of the Dead would be there by morning. They had taken the Last Hearth, the seat of House Umber, so anyone who wasn’t already at Winterfell should be considered part of the Army of the Dead.

Sam came across Jorah arguing with Lyanna. He wanted her to be in the crypt where it was safe, but she wanted to fight. Lyanna vowed to fight. Sam gave Jorah Heartsbane to use in battle since he couldn’t wield it himself.

That night, Edd, Sam, and Jon remarked on them being the last standing of their Night’s Watch brothers. In the crypt, Daenerys found Jon at Lyanna’s statue. He confessed his true parentage and name to her, and she understood immediately that would make him the last male heir to the throne. However, their argument was cut short. The Army of the Dead had arrived.
