Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 1 Recap
After its Fox cancellation and subsequent NBC rescue, NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine is back for a sixth season, and we’re recapping it here! During the season 5 finale, Jake and Amy got married after their plans were ruined, and Captain Holt was about to reveal if he would become Police Commissioner. Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 episode 1 picked up right where the cliffhanger left off.
Always Be Coconutting
Unfortunately, Holt had misread the email. John Kelly would become Police Commissioner and would introduce a “vigilant policing” proposal. After finding out, Holt didn’t come to work, and no one knew what he was up to.
Amy was able to cash in a wedding insurance policy. She and Jake used the money to go on a honeymoon in Mexico with a referral from Gina. The only problem was that Holt had gotten the same referral. Amy and Jake decided to include Holt in their activities in the hopes that he would feel better and go home
It seemed to work, except that when Holt was ready to check out, he told Jake he would be quitting when he got home. Jake and Amy tied him to the hotel bed to make him see reason. But when Holt called Jake selfish, Amy yelled at Holt. Her rant inspired him to stop caring about the chain of command. He would go over John Kelly to the mayor about his concerns over “vigilant policing”. This angered Kelly, who closed the first floor of the 99. When Jake, Amy, and Holt returned to the bullpen, it was crowded, and Holt declared they were at war with the NYPD.
Top Dog Terry
With Holt gone, Terry was in charge. Rosa came to him because the Department of Sanitation stole her meth case. He suggested working with them, but Rosa had been told she couldn’t because of budgetary reasons. She suggested that Terry consult the manual Holt had written for his replacement in case he became Commissioner.
Terry tried to find it, which led to disastrous results. Rosa ended his misery by presenting him with a copy that Gina had all along. The advice contained within was to consult Terry in moments of doubt, because Holt trusted his judgement. Terry told Rosa to take the lead in partnering with Sanitation, and a supplemental budget could offset the cost.
Gina’s mom was divorcing Boyle’s dad, and Charles had to get to the bottom of why. He tried to use a wig and a mask of Gina’s face to unlock her phone. He tricked her into unlocking it herself and discovered that she had urged her mother to get a divorce. Charles thought Gina was ashamed about being a Boyle. However, Gina told him that her mom was cheating on his dad, and that was her reason for insisting on divorce.
