Outlander Season 4 Episode 6 Recap
In the previous episode of Starz’s Outlander, measles devastated a German settler family, and Jamie found Murtagh, who followed him back to Fraser’s Ridge. In Outlander season 4 episode 6, Lord John Grey arrived in Fraser’s Ridge and brought Jamie’s son, William, with him.
All That a Man Could Want
John arrived unannounced. He had left William to wait by the stream to warn Jamie first. William might not recognize him, and it would be best to not mention it if he didn’t. He told Jamie that Isobel had died on the ship to Jamaica. At the stream, Claire and Murtagh came upon William, whose legs were covered in leeches. William asked her to remove them, and they took him back to the cabin to clean his wounds.
Back at the cabin, John asked Jamie and Murtagh not to mention Arsmuir prison. At dinner, John explained he was friends with Governor Tryon and believed the Regulators to be unreasonable and dangerous. Murtagh clashed with him. Alone with Jamie, Murtagh encouraged him to get information from John. But he realized that William was Jamie’s son, so it was complicated for him. Murtagh left to go back to his smith shop, and Jamie and John played chess into the night.
As John and William were about to set out for Virginia, Claire realized John was coming down with the measles. He had come through Cross Creek. Claire would treat John at the cabin, while Jamie kept William away in the wilderness. Alone together, John and Claire accused each other of envying what they had with Jamie. Claire told him about Brianna, and John confessed he could’ve been with Jamie if he hadn’t refused the offer. Once the fever passed, John apologized, and he and Claire reconciled.
William realized that Jamie was “Mac” when he witnessed Jamie interacting with a horse. He struggled against Jamie taking him away from the cabin since he worried that John would die. Jamie took him fishing and hunting, and he taught William to dress a deer himself. He showed him the carvings on trees that marked the boundary of the Cherokee territory.
Jamie woke to find William gone. He had speared a fish in the stream within the Cherokee territory. A small group of Cherokee came upon them and demanded blood for the fish he took. Jamie claimed to be his father and that they have the same blood. William stood between them and said it wasn’t true and that he was responsible. The Cherokee simply nicked him with the ax; the mercy was because of William’s courage.
When Jamie and William returned, John was better and no longer contagious. They left Fraser’s Ridge, and John had given Jamie his chess set. Finally alone together, Jamie gave Claire a bath. He presented her with a new wedding ring that Murtagh fashioned from his mother’s candlestick.
