For How Long Was Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Prison?

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 after she accepted a plea bargain. However, in September 2023, she was granted parole. According to TODAY, she will be released on December 28, 2023. In total, she spent eight years in prison.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is the daughter of Dee Dee Blanchard. The plot to murder Dee Dee was devised by Gypsy and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. The story of Gypsy is rather peculiar because, for years, neighbors of the Blanchard family believed that Dee Dee was the ideal mother. She took care of her wheelchair-bound daughter and made sure Gypsy was always protected.

However, after Dee Dee’s brutal death, investigators learned that Gypsy was neither sick nor required a lot of medication to live a normal life. In fact, the Springfield News-Leader reported that Gypsy’s mother suffered from a psychological disorder known as Munchhausen syndrome by proxy. This disorder makes the caretaker make someone ill on purpose.

Furthermore, Munchhausen syndrome by proxy also makes the sufferer make everyone around them that a person is severely ill. The motive to act this way is to gain attention. Dee Dee held her daughter as a medical prisoner.

Officials discovered Dee Dee Blanchard’s corpse on June 14, 2015. She was face down in her home in a pool of blood. Gypsy’s then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn stabbed her 17 times, which resulted in her death. After this murder, the couple ran away together. However, a few days later, they were discovered by the police.

Where is Dee Dee Blanchard’s killer Nicholas Godejohn now?

In November 2018, the court convicted Nicholas Godejohn of first-degree murder. Furthermore, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to Hollywood Life, Nicholas Godejohn is currently being held at the Potosi Correctional Center, Missouri.
