Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was convicted in her mother’s murder case, will walk out of prison on December 28. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016, received a 10-year prison sentence, and is now up for early release. She has only served 85% of the total term, per People Magazine.
In June 2015, Blanchard and her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn plotted to murder her abusive mother Dee Dee Blanchard. The duo met online on a Christian dating website but have since separated. Godejohn, who received a life sentence without parole in 2019, continues to serve his time in prison.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard now: The infamous case and her current life explained
According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, Gypsy Rose Blanchard is currently incarcerated at the Chillicothe Correctional Center. Her release date is on December 28, 2023, after serving 85% of her 10-year prison sentence. The time she spent in Greene County Jail before her trial is counted towards her time served, per People Magazine.
The outlet reported that Blanchard has previously expressed her “complicated” feelings regarding her prison sentence. In a 2016 interview with Dr. Phil McGraw, she mentioned that she was unsure what a “just punishment” would be in her situation.
Blanchard said, “I believe firmly that, no matter what, murder is not okay. I do believe that I do deserve to spend some time in prison for that crime. But I also understand why it happened, and I don’t believe that I’m in the right place to get the help that I need.”
The motive behind the crime was Dee Dee Blanchard’s years of mental and physical abuse on Blanchard. Dee Dee reportedly forced her daughter to use a wheelchair, despite her ability to walk. She even shaved the girl’s head to make the latter appear like she was going through chemotherapy.
Reportedly, the mother even faced accusations of manipulating Blanchard’s birth certificate to list her as four years younger than her actual age. She also faced allegations of physically abusing her daughter behind closed doors.
After Gypsy Rose Blanchard met Nicholas Godejohn, Dee Dee “got jealous, because I was spending a little too much attention on him. She had ordered me to stay away from him. Needless to say, that was a very long argument that lasted a couple weeks. Yelling, throwing things, calling me names: b***h, s***, w***e,” Blanchard told ABC News.
Blanchard’s then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn told ABC 20/20 about the murder motive and the remorse he felt after committing the crime, “I felt horrible about it. I … did what I did because I loved her. I really wanted a life with her, I really did.”
During his sentencing, Godejohn reiterated the murder motive, claiming, “I was blindly in love. That was always very much the case.” A jury found him guilty of murder and felony armed criminal action charges in his fall 2018 trial. He received a life term without parole in February 2019. He is currently serving his sentence at the Potosi Correctional Center, per the Department of Corrections.
Elsewhere, Gypsy Blanchard’s plea deal came in 2016. Prosecutors offered her the deal because of Dee Dee’s abusive behavior towards her.
Entertainment Tonight mentioned that Blanchard met a man named Ryan Scott Anderson as a pen pal while in prison. The couple reportedly tied the knot on June 27, 2022.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard remains incarcerated in Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center before her early release on December 28, 2023.
