Anna Sorokin: Where Is She Now?

Anna Sorokin deceived others by posing as a wealthy heiress, displaying her skills as a con artist and fraudster. From 2013 to 2017, Sorokin presented herself as a super-rich person and infiltrated the upper-class New York social and art scenes.

Pretending to be a German heiress, Sorokin duped New York’s elites, hotels, and banks, and extracted approximately $275,000 in 2016 and 2017. She spun tales of her affluent background and expressed interest in business and the arts. Apart from that, Sorokin tricked hotel employees, persuading them to let her stay at their properties.

In October 2017, the New York Police Department executed a sting operation and arrested Anna Sorokin. In April 2019, the jury convicted her on eight charges, including second-degree grand larceny, sentencing her to 4 to 12 years in prison.

But how much time did the con artist serve in the prison? And where is she now? Let’s get to know more about Anna Sorokin.

How much time did Anna Sorokin serve in prison?

In 2017, the NYPD, with the assistance of her former friend, Rachel DeLoache Williams, arrested Sorokin in a sting operation, accusing her of defrauding Williams of $62,000. During the trial, her lawyer tried to explain who she was and labelled her as an entrepreneur. He also stated that Sorokin had the intent to pay all the debt. Anna Sorokin was convicted of attempted grand larceny, second-degree larceny, and theft of services nearly two years later.

She was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison. However, after serving two years, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement remanded her into custody for deportation to Germany. The court opted against deportation, expressing concern that Sorokin if released, might perpetrate further fraud.

On October 5, 2022, the court granted Sorokin a $10,000 bail bond, releasing her from prison. As of October 2022, authorities require Sorokin to undergo a 24-hour home confinement with electronic monitoring, and she has no access to social media. Currently, Anna Sorokin is still on house arrest and living in New York City.

Netflix is currently streaming a limited series titled Inventing Anna, based on Anna Sorokin’s life, and they paid her $320,000 for her story.
