Did Bernie Madoff Die in Prison?

Bernie Madoff infamously orchestrated the largest known Ponzi scheme of all time. This Ponzi scheme was worth close to $65 billion. Once upon a time, Madoff was the chairman of the Nasdaq stock exchange.

Madoff’s company had two branches. One handled stock brokerage and the other took care of the asset management business. The asset management business maintained the multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme. The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Bernie Madoff on December 11, 2008. On June 29, 2009, the court sentenced him to 150 years in prison.

According to AP, during his sentencing, former investor Tom Fitzmaurice told the judge, “He stole from the rich. He stole from the poor. He had no values. He cheated his victims out of their money so he and his wife … could live a life of luxury beyond belief.”

Bernie Madoff died in Federal Medical Center, Butner on April 14, 2021, due to chronic kidney disease. At the time of his passing, he was 82 years old.

Netflix’s Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street is based on the book, Madoff Talks. Jim Campbell wrote and released it in 2021. Netflix released all episodes of the four-part documentary series on January 4, 2023.

According to the documentary series’ official trailer on YouTube, the synopsis for Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street reads, “With an innovative visual approach, Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street is a four-part edge-of-your-seat financial thriller which reveals the truth behind Bernie Madoff’s infamous multibillion-dollar global Ponzi scheme and the ways in which a willfully blind financial system allowed it to flourish for decades.”

Teresa Giordano developed it, while the story was written by Andrew Becker and Eleanor Yu. It was directed by Joe Berlinger.
