Camilo Salazar Murder: Where Is Manuel Marin Now?

Dateline NBC is set to re-examine the murder of Camilo Salazar, which happened on June 1, 2011. The episode, titled “The End of the Affair,” will explain how an extramarital affair was the cause of Salazar’s gruesome death. NBC will air the episode on Thursday, November 9, at 10 p.m. ET.

When the investigation began in the case, authorities discovered that Salazar had an affair with Jenny Marin. As the investigation progressed, it became evident that Jenny’s husband, Manuel Marin, had orchestrated Salazar’s brutal murder. Additionally, police found that Manuel hired three men to kill his wife’s lover and burn his body.

Jenny’s husband was found guilty and sentenced to life in Camilo Salazar’s murder case. Manuel is currently serving his sentence at Dade Correctional Institution in Florida. His accomplices, on the other hand, were also found guilty by the jurors.

Court put all the accused, including Manuel Marin, on trial in the murder case of Carlos Salazar

Authorities found Salazar’s burning body at Okeechobee Road and Northwest 138th Avenue. Their report stated that his body was bound, beaten, and tortured. Moreover, Salazar’s throat was slashed, and his body was partially burned. As the case progressed, investigators found Manuel killed Salazar after learning about the latter’s relationship with Jenny. Authorities suspected Marin plotted Camilo Salazar’s murder with Roberto Isaac, Ariel Gandulla, and Alexis Vila Perdomo. They put all the culprits on trial.

Two separate trials occurred in the case. The 2019 trial prosecuted Roberto Isaac, Ariel Gandulla, and Alexis Vila Perdomo for their crimes. However, the trial took a shocking turn when Gandulla took a plea deal and testified against the other men involved in the case. Authorites dropped most of the charges against him, including murder and conspiracy charges. The court sentenced him to three years for the kidnapping charge.

Were Roberto Isaac and Alexis Vila Perdermo found guilty for Salazar’s murder?

In October 2019, the trial against Isaac and Perdermo began, with prosecutors accusing them of assisting Manuel in Camilo Salazar’s kidnapping and murder. During the trial, Manuel’s wife, Jenny, also took the stand and opened up about her relationship with Salazar. Jenny told the court that Manuel went crazy after learning about the affair and screamed at her. Jenny reportedly fought back tears, admitting she might have caused her lover’s death.

After Jenny’s testimony, prosecutors showed evidence in the form of call records and told the court how Marin, Isaac, and the other culprits were in contact with each other. According to the prosecutors and experts, Salazar’s phone, along with Isaac and Marin, showed that all three were in the same area.

After eight days of testimony, jurors reportedly took less than two hours to decide Isaac and Perdormo’s fate. The jury found Isaac guilty of second-degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Meanwhile, the jury found Perdomo guilty of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and murder.

Court sentenced Manuel Marin to life in the murder case of Carlos Salazar

The second trial began in March 2023, and Manuel Marin was in the court for allegedly planning the gruesome murder of Camilo Salazar. A detective reported that Manuel’s cell phone was near the crime scene and pinged off a tower just north of that location. Manuel’s attorney persistently defended him, claiming he was in Bimini during the murder.

Jenny’s husband faced additional trouble when suspect Ariel Gandulla testified in court, saying he saw Manuel and his blue Mercedes on the day of the crime. Meanwhile, one of the lead detectives noted that there was “apparent blood” in Manuel’s car.

After a nine-day trial, the jury found Manuel Marin not guilty of second-degree murder but guilty of manslaughter, criminal conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and kidnapping. The court sentenced him to life for the murder of Camilo Salazar.
