CBS 48 Hours: Who Killed Marlene Warren?

This Saturday, an all-new episode on CBS 48 Hours will delve into Marlene Warren’s May 1990 shooting death. The episode titled “Murder by Clown” airs on October 28, 2023, at 10 p.m. ET.

CBS News reported that a shooter dressed in a clown costume fatally shot Marlene on the morning of May 26, 1990. The incident occurred in the doorway of the family’s Florida home in front of their 21-year-old son Joseph Ahrens. Sheila Keen-Warren, the alleged mistress and subsequent wife of the victim’s husband, was the sole suspect in the case.

After a three-decades-long investigation, police arrested Sheila from Virginia in 2017, following which the media dubbed her the ‘Killer Clown.’ They linked her to the slaying using DNA evidence. The accused eventually pleaded guilty to second-degree murder earlier this year in April.

Was Marlene Warren’s Killer Clown ever caught?

Marlene Warren’s ‘Killer Clown’ – her husband’s alleged mistress and subsequent wife Sheila Keen-Warren – pleaded guilty to a murder charge earlier this year. The case came to a close more than three decades after the mother-of-one died of a gunshot wound to the face.

According to People Magazine, the killer, dressed as a clown, shot Marlene in the face at their Flordia home’s doorway. The incident occurred in front of her 21-year-old son in the morning hours on May 26, 1990. Authorities believe Sheila committed the crime as she was allegedly having an affair with the victim’s husband, Michael Warren. The rumored couple even got married later.

Twenty-seven years later, in 2017, police arrested Sheila in Virginia after DNA evidence linked her to Marlene’s unsolved killing after reopening the case in 2014. The accused faced a first-degree murder charge. Moreover, statements from local costume store workers claimed that the rumored mistress bought a clown outfit before the incident.

People further disclosed State Attorney Dave Aronberg’s statement. Aronberg said, “Sheila Keen-Warren has finally been forced to admit that she was the one who dressed as a clown and took the life of an innocent victim. She will be a convicted murderer for the rest of her days.”

Sheila pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder charge on April 25, 2023, but maintained her innocence in the 33-year-old case. Later, she received a 12-year sentence as part of which “she’ll have to spend at least 2 more years in state prison,” as per WPBF.

The upcoming CBS 48 Hours episode will air on Saturday, October 28.
