CBS 48 Hours: What Did Bryan Patrick Miller AKA the Zombie Hunter Serial Killer Do?

An upcoming episode of 48 Hours on CBS is set to document the gruesome killings of two young women by the serial killer Bryan Patrick Miller, aka The Zombie Hunter. Titled “Unmasking the Zombie Hunter”, the episode, which will feature the horrifying details of the murders, will air on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 10 p.m. ET.

In the early 90s, Bryan Patrick Miller brutally murdered two young women named Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas near a canal in Phoenix. These murders were committed on November 1992 and September 1993, respectively. On November 8, 1992, 22-year-old Brosso vanished during a bike ride near a Phoenix canal. Shockingly, authorities later found her decapitated body near the 25th Avenue and Cactus Road. And, after 11 days the authorities found her head elsewhere. The gruesome post-mortem report confirmed Brosso was also sexually assaulted.

Meanwhile, Melanie Bernas, a student at Arcadia High School, became the second victim of the notorious Zombie Killer in September 1993. Tragically, Bernas was also attacked near a canal while riding her bike. She was subjected to sexual assault and mercilessly murdered using a knife. The law enforcement officials discovered her body in the Arizona Canal, approximately 1.5 miles away from where Brosso’s remains were found.

Why was Bryan Patrick dubbed the Zombie Hunter?

According to a report in the New York Post, serial killer Bryan Patrick Miller was known as the Zombie Hunter in Phoenix’s sci-fi and horror community. The accused would dress up as the fictional apocalyptic character and attend several conventions while wearing a helmet, mask, and goggles. On the other hand, he also carried a large fake gun with himself.

Finally, in 2015, DNA evidence connected Miller to the murders of Brosso and Melanie Bernas. Undercover police obtained his DNA from a mug he used at a restaurant, which matched the bodily fluids found at the crime scenes. Serial killer Bryan Patrick Miller was convicted in April 2023 for these heinous crimes.

On June 2023, serial killer Bryan Patrick Miller, aka The Zombie Hunter, was handed down two death sentences for the murders of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas.
