Shock Interview: Riddick’s Katee Sackhoff

In addition to speaking to Katee Sackhoff on-camera here, we had a little off-camera time to chat about today’s sci-fi release Riddick.

In the film, Sackhoff (best known for her turn in Battlestar Galactica) plays “Dahl” a mercenary who, with her team, tracks the eponymous Riddick (played again by Vin Diesel) to a creature-filled planet.  Dahl proves she can hold her own against the rest of the “mercs,” but how does she fair against Riddick?

Review: Riddick

There’s a lot to like about Riddick, the third film in the sci-fi/creature-heavy series.  And if you’re a big fan of Pitch Black, I think you’re going to dig this back-to-the-basics entry which eschews the galactic melodrama of The Chronicles of Riddick in favor of a rather simple man versus nature, man versus himself and man versus man story told on a budget with a lot of ambition.

There’s an interesting “throwback” nature to the film that extends well beyond the flavor of an ’90s action flick – a comparison you can instantly reach for.  But there’s also the air of a Roger Corman-produced sci-fi film surrounding Riddick that is undeniable in its tone, production value and monstrous threats.

Shock Video: Vin Diesel and Katee Sackhoff on Riddick’s Return to the Screen!

Over ten years ago, a sci-fi creature feature called Pitch Black snuck up on everyone and offered a refreshing, clever take on the genre and introduced the world to a new antihero: Richard B. Riddick, played by Vin Diesel.  The character returned in the adventure flick The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004 which found him swept up in a much larger story and, by the end, ruling an undead army.

Riddick, opening this Friday, decidedly returns to the series’ roots for the third entry, finding Riddick stranded on a planet and battling its various inhabitants as well as two groups of bounty hunters.

ShockTillyouDrop.com sat down with Diesel, who returns to star and produce the film, and co-star Katee Sackhoff.  We discussed the new shades of Riddick’s personality seen in the film, why the character has endured, Diesel’s creative involvement when he’s not in front of the camera and, of course, we talk about the monsters on display.  Head inside for the interview!
