Here are Five Clips from R.I.P.D.

R.I.P.D. opens one week from today – on July 19th – and we have a five-clip preview to share with you.  Head inside for the sneak peek.

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.  Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.

There has been little advance buzz, so I have no idea what to expect from this one, we just have the trailers and images to go on.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, the film is based on the Dark Horse comic book of the same name which focuses on the “Rest In Peace Department” where a murdered cop comes back from the dead to find his killer.

R.I.P.D. opens on July 19th and we’ve got a look at the Universal release via a 60-second TV spot that is making the rounds.  The film is dropping a week after the juggernaut that is called Pacific Rim hits theaters.  Does the film stand a chance?

Footage Description from R.I.P.D. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges

Universal Pictures opened the second day of CinemaCon with extended looks at five of their major upcoming 2013 releases, including R.I.P.D., 2 Guns, Kick-Ass 2, Despicable Me 2 and Fast & Furious 6.

R.I.P.D., set for release on July 19th, stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges as deceased police officers who, in the afterlife, are summoned to represent the “Rest in Peace Department,” an organization dedicated to apprehending evil souls hiding out on Earth in an effort to escape judgment.

Primarily a montage of scenes, the footage shows Reynold’s still-living Nick Walker arriving at a massive SWAT raid. He’s killed and suddenly the world is frozen in the middle of the action. He walks through a bullet time environment to the outside world where a swirling vortex is waiting for him in the heavens. Unable to stay behind, Walker is lifted into the mouth of the vortex.

Photos from the Set of R.I.P.D.’s Additional Shooting

The gang of R.I.P.D. returned to set over the weekend.  That’s okay, the movie’s not due in theaters until July 19th, so they’ve got some time to tinker.

Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Mary-Louise Parker filmed scenes for the Universal production in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, November 25, and ComingSoon.net has pictures from the shoot!   Head inside for the pics.

Based on the Dark Horse mini-series, “R.I.P.D.” (short for “Rest In Peace Department”) is Peter Lenkov’s comedic amalgam of the police and zombie genres featuring two dead police officers whose job it is to help the dead “rest in peace.” Stephanie Szostak, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, James Hong and Robert Knepper co-star in the July 19, 2013 release, directed by Robert Schwentke.

Ryan Reynolds’ R.I.P.D. Moves Deeper into Summer 2013

A slight release date push has been made for Universal’s R.I.P.D. – the action/horror/comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.

The film, an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book of the same name, was originally slated for a June 28, 2013 release but it will now open July 19, 2013.

That’s a free weekend right at the time of this writing, but it should be noted that this positions R.I.P.D.’s opening one week after Warner Bros./Legendary debuts Pacific Rim on July 12th.

If that Guillermo Del Toro-directed monsters vs. robots epic lives up to the overwhelming reaction its preview received at Comic-Con this summer, it could very well crush any competition opening in its wake, including R.I.P.D.
