Summer Horror Movie Memories & Fright Guide to the Last 34 Years

As a horror fan who thrives on the sight of autumn leaves, the intermingling of orange and black and the unmistakable smell of a freshly-gutted pumpkin, of course I relish the idea of a fall season jam-packed with new horror films in the theater.

But my fondest horror movie memories come from those offerings that arrived during the summer.

If you’ve followed my ramblings over the years, you know my go-to summer horror movie recollection. It involves getting the opportunity to see Fright Night opening night – at nine years old – and being presented, en route to the theater, with an escape plan by my father, in case I was too scared to see the film.

Your First Look at Blumhouse’s Jessabelle Has Arrived

?Blumhouse closes out this summer with the chiller Jessabelle, directed by Saw series contributor/director Kevin Greutert. Today, distributor Lionsgate debuted the first photo (via Yahoo! Movies).

The trailer for the August 29th release will also come online this Thursday, so stay tuned.

Mark Webber About the Vibe of Jessabelle

?Later this year, Lionsgate will release the supernatural thriller Jessabelle, another Blumhouse production, starring Mark Webber of 13 Sins, now on VOD and in theaters.

Our brother site, ComingSoon.net, caught up to Webber to speak about the latter film and got him to comment on Jessabelle, opening August 29th.

Jane, Alba to Star in Blumhouse’s Cult Film The Veil

Thomas Jane is going to star in a new thriller from Blumhouse Productions called The Veil. THR says Jessica Alba is also circling a role in the film.

Blumhouse is producing the script by Robert Ben Garant, who also penned the upcoming Jessabelle for the company.

Lionsgate Moves Jessabelle to Late August 2014

Lionsgate reps inform us that Kevin Greutert’s supernatural thriller, Jessabelle, will no longer open on January 10, 2014. 

Instead, the film – a Blumhouse production – has been shifted to August 29, 2014.

Directed by Kevin Greutert with a script by Robert Ben Garant, the film stars Sarah Snook, Mark Webber and Joelle Carter.

Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters Skewer Box Office Competition, January Eyed As…

Another January weekend and another horror project hitting the top of the box office.  

This weekend, it was Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Tommy Wirkola’s horror-actioner starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

The film grossed an estimated $19 million – not quite hitting the projected numbers analysts were putting it at (on Friday, some said it would hit $25 million), still, not shabby for a film that is at 15% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Mama came in at number two with an estimated $12.8 million bringing that film’s total to $48.6 million.

Lionsgate Sets Ghosts For January 10, 2014

Lionsgate has targeted a January 10, 2014 release for its upcoming supernatural thriller Ghosts (formerly Jessabelle).

Kevin Greutert’s Jessabelle Lands Two Actors

The latest supernatural thriller to come from producer Jason Blum (Pararnormal Activity, The Lords of Salem), Jessabelle, has landed two lead actors.

According to Variety, Sarah Snook and Mark Webber have signed aboard for director Kevin Greutert (Saw 3D).  Lionsgate will distribute the film.
