Has Writing Begun on Beetlejuice 2?

Seth Grahame-Smith posted an interesting update to his Twitter/Instagram this morning.  We reTweeted it, however, if you’re not following every social media channel we oversee, well, here’s the skinny…

The writer behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows showed off a pic that may or may not allude to the fact that he has begun writing Beetlejuice 2.  Head inside and you’ll see what we mean.

Now, Seth recently boarded Fantastic Four for Fox and he’s doing a polish of that script.  So, maybe he’s settling down to get cracking on that and the Beetlejuice reference is just Seth’s brand of goofiness.

A little over a year ago, Seth told us he had taken a meeting with Michael Keaton to discuss the sequel, since then things have been rather quiet.

Exclusive Video: Tim Burton Talks Beetlejuice 2

Roughly 24 years ago, a young director named Tim Burton made a significant mark with his second feature film, the dark comedy Beetlejuice, which also put actor Michael Keaton firmly on the map while winning an Oscar for its special make-up FX.

A few months back, it was reported that Dark Shadows screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith was working on the screenplay for a sequel and at the junket for Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of Grahame-Smith’s novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, producer Tim Burton spoke to about the prospects for a sequel to Beetlejuice, which he claims to be one of his favorite characters.

EXCL: Seth Grahame-Smith on Adapting Dark Shadows

Opening in theaters today: Dark Shadows, directed by Tim Burton.  On writing duties is Seth Grahame-Smith, not necessarily a newcomer to the genre, but a writer making his feature debut with this adaptation of the supernatural soap opera.

Shock first met Grahame-Smith when his book, How to Survive a Horror Movie, hit shelves.  We later crossed paths during the interview sessions for His Name Was Jason, the Friday the 13th documentary (which Grahame-Smith is all over talking about his love for the franchise).  His real success took off with the Jane Austen mash-up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which launched not just a novel but a movie deal.

This summer, audiences get a one-two punch from him with Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, an adaptation of his novel, produced by Tim Burton opening June 22nd.  So, yes, we’ll be hearing much more about the writer in the coming months.  For now, we spoke to him about all things Burton/Johnny Depp.  Head inside for our chat about bringing Dark Shadows to the screen.

Michael Keaton Meets About Beetlejuice 2, Seth Grahame-Smith Offers Update

Last night, Shock Till You Drop met up with Seth Grahame-Smith about his upcoming film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (which he penned) in St.Louis.  While there, we got the latest on Beetlejuice 2, the follow-up film the writer is involved with at Warner Bros and that Tim Burton will shepherd.

Shock asked him for the latest on the project and to see how close the sequel was to becoming a reality.  “It’s a reality in the sense that I met with Michael Keaton last week,” Grahame-Smith told us.  “We talked for a couple of hours and talked about big picture stuff.  It’s a priority for Warner Bros.  It’s a priority for Tim.  Right now, I am writing an animated movie for Tim based on an idea of mine.  Then I adapt Unholy Night [based on the upcoming book].  The third I am hoping is Beetlejuice in terms of writing schedule.”
