On January 20, actress Rachel McAdams received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During the ceremony, Sam Raimi praised the actress for her long-standing career. But before he began his tribute, he cracked a well-known joke.

“Guys, before I begin, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has asked me to ask if anyone has lost a roll of $5 bills with a rubber band around them?” he asked, looking around. He then held out a rubber band in his hand and said, “Okay, well, we’ve found the rubber band.”

The joke is a direct callback to Sam Raimi’s 2004 movie, Spider-Man 2. In the movie, Dr. Otto Octavius tells the joke to a group of people in his lab moments before he demonstrates the fusion power machine. He ends the joke, saying, “It’s a terrible joke.”

The director’s speech for The Notebook actress blended lighthearted roasts with heartfelt praise. He joked about some of her earlier movies, including Shotgun Love Dolls and The Hot Chick, which launched her to fame.

He concluded his speech on a sincere note, saying, “Congratulations, Rachel. You are so kind and considerate. You’re a brilliant collaborator and a good friend and a real movie star. Someone to light up this Hollywood Walk of Fame. You are really deserving of this honor. And we all love you. Thank you, Rachel.”

Raimi and McAdams are collaborating on their upcoming horror-thriller movie, Send Help. He serves as the director with a script from Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. McAdams portrays Linda Liddle, who becomes stranded on an island with her sexist company CEO, Bradley Preston, after a plane crash. As they struggle to survive, the uneasiness between the two soon turns into a psychological battle.

Send Help will debut in cinemas on January 30, 2026.
