Sydney Sweeney recently called out “girls” who criticized her bathwater soap campaign but “loved the idea of Jacob Elordi‘s bathwater.” The actress had partnered with soapmaker Dr. Squatch to sell limited-edition soaps mixed with her own bathwater to men.
Sydney Sweeney calls out girls who liked Jacob Elordi’s bathwater idea
Sydney Sweeney said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, “It’s important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying.” She added, “Because everything is a conversation with the audience.”
The Anyone But You star addressed the backlash against her bathwater soap. Sweeney compared the public perception of the product to that of the idea of her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi’s bathwater candle. She highlighted the alleged double standard, noting that while Elordi received praise, her bathwater soap was criticized.
“It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting,” she shared. “They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”
Jacob Elordi’s bathwater candle dropped in January 2024 prior to the release of his film Saltburn. In the movie, Barry Keoghan‘s character becomes attracted to Elordi’s Felxi Catton and ingests the bathwater he had been soaking in while masturbating. The product became the subject of numerous online memes.
Further, in the aforementioned interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Americana actress shared that Dr. Squatch was acquired by Unilever. The acquisition was officially announced in June this year.
Sweeney was asked if she had a stake in any of the brands she represented. The actress evaded the question, but stressed she was “very” strategic when it came to handling her business partnerships.
While Sweeney has discussed the backlash surrounding her bathwater soap, she has yet to address the criticism aimed at her American Eagle jeans ad.
