Next Gen Trailer: Netflix’s Animated Adventure Soars

Netflix has released a colorful new trailer for its upcoming animated feature Next Gen featuring the voice talents of John Krasinski (A Quiet Place), Charlene Yi (The Disaster Artist), Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), David Cross (The Post), Michael Peña (Ant-Man and the Wasp) and Jason Sudeikis (Downsizing), and the results are downright astonishing. A friendship with a top-secret robot (Krasinski) turns a lonely girl’s life into a thrilling adventure as they take on bullies, evil bots, and a scheming madman. Next Gen, a Netflix Film, launches September 7. The story is based on the original comic 7723, by Wang Nima.

Netflix purchased the global distribution rights for Next Gen at Cannes in May for a whopping $30 million, according to Deadline, though Alibaba and Wanda will handle distribution in China.

The animated adventure was written and directed by Kevin R. Adams and Joe Ksander, who produced the short animated films Gear and Enter the Sandbox. Adams has extensive experience in animation having worked on such features as Kronk’s New Groove, Tarzan 2, Home on the Range, Hercules and The Emperor’s New Groove under various roles. Ksander served as an animator on Transformers: Age of Extinction, Cowboys & Aliens, X-Men: First Class and Yogi Bear.

Nima and Ryan W. Smith also co-wrote the film. Canada-based Tangent Animation (Ozzy) produced the animation.
