Watch Christopher Nolan, Mark Rylance, Harry Styles and more at the Dunkirk press conference
Having so far received near-unanimous critical acclaim, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk hits theaters this Friday. A Warner Bros. Pictures release, Dunkirk continues Nolan’s love of the IMAX format. As he did with The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, Nolan captured a large portion of the film with IMAX’s 15perf 65m film cameras, the highest-resolution cameras in the world. In promotion of the big screen release, Nolan joined producer (and wife) Emma Thomas alongside stars Fionn Whitehead, Harry Styles, Jack Lowden, Mark Rylance and Barry Keoghan for a Dunkirk press conference held at Santa Monica airport’s historic Barker Hanger. Filmed on location in France, Holland, the UK and Los Angeles, Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.
In the below Dunkirk press conference video, Nolan explains why this story was an important one for him to tell while his cast reminisces about taking part in such an epically scaled production.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Tom Glynn-Carney, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Kenneth Branagh and, reteaming with Nolan having worked on both The Dark Knight series and Inception, both Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.
Dunkirk was written by Nolan and produced by Nolan and Thomas with Jake Myers (The Revenant, Interstellar, Jack Reacher) serving as executive producer.
