Sit down with the cast and crew of the critically acclaimed romantic comedy The Big Sick
One of the best reviewed films of the year, The Big Sick has been playing in limited engagements since late last month. This Friday, however, Amazon Studios and Lionsgate‘s acclaimed romantic comedy goes wide, giving everyone a chance to find out why this one has so many people talking. CS recently had the chance to sit down with several of the talented individuals behind the film and, in the player below, you can check out conversations with writer and star Kumail Nanjiani alongside co-writer Emily V. Gordon, stars Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter and Ray Romano, as well as director Michael Showalter and producer Judd Apatow.
Based on the real-life events that led to them meeting and falling in love, Nanjiani and Gordon’s script follows Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who connects with grad student Emily (Kazan) after one of his standup sets. However, what they thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily is beset with a mystery illness, it forces Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents, Beth and Terry (Hunter and Romano) who he’s never met, while dealing with the emotional tug-of-war between his family and his heart.
Also produced by Barry Mendel, The Big Sick hits wide release this Friday, July 14.
