CS sits down with The Shack movie stars Octavia Spencer and Radha Mitchell alongside author William P. Young

In theaters this Friday, Summit Entertainment‘s The Shack movie adapts the New York Times best-selling novel by William P. Young. The faith-based film stars Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) as Mack Phillips, a husband and father who suffers a terrifying loss when one of his children is killed. Unable to believe in a god that could let such a terrible thing happen, Mack finds himself growing distant from a wife (Radha Mitchell) and a family that needs him now more than ever. Mack opens the mailbox one day to discover a mysterious letter signed from “Papa” (his wife’s nickname for God) that invites him to a meeting in the shack where his daughter died.

CS recently sat down with The Shack movie stars Octavia Spencer and Radha Mitchell alongside author William P. Young himself. In the player below, they discuss the allegory behind the story. Spencer shares some insight on playing an omnipotent being, while Young recalls the lifelong journey that led him to write The Shack and reflects on the story’s poetic truth.

“It’s a true story,” he tells us. “It’s just not real.”

A Summit Entertainment and Gil Netter / Windblown Media production, The Shack movie also stars Tim McGraw, who writes and performs the film’s single, “Keep Your Eyes On Me” alongside Faith Hill.

Directed by Stuart Hazeldine from an adapted screenplay by John Fusco and Andrew Lanham & Destin Cretton, The Shack movie opens in theaters March 3.
