Check out three Raw movie clips for a look at Julia Ducournau’s festival hit
From Focus World and first-time director Julia Ducournau, the upcoming Raw movie (titled Grave in its original French) has been a much buzzed about horror thriller following its screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, and Cannes. In the three players below, you can get a taste for why that is. While these new clips don’t contain any real gore, they’re nevertheless not for the squeamish.
The French-Belgian horror thriller offers the following official description:
Everyone in Justine’s family is a vet. And a vegetarian. At sixteen she’s a brilliant student starting out at veterinary school where she experiences a decadent, merciless and dangerously seductive world. Desperate to fit in, she strays from her family principles and eats raw meat for the first time. Justine will soon face the terrible and unexpected consequences as her true self begins to emerge…
Last fall, Raw won the Sutherland Award for Best First Feature at the BFI London Film Festival. The prize follows other accolades from film festivals around the world, where it has proved to be a fan and industry favorite. Raw won the Best Director award at Fantastic Fest‘s “Next Wave” competition; the Golden Octopus Award and the Audience Award at the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival; and three prizes at the Sitges-Catalonian International Film Festival, including the Citizen Kane Award for Best Up-and-Coming Director, the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best Feature-Length European Film, and the Carnet Jove Jury Award for Best Feature-Length Film.
