Watch: New ‘Sicario’ Trailer Sets the Stakes and Welcomes Us to Juarez

After earning an Oscar nod for Incendies, leaving audiences gasping for breath with Prisoners and confounding every single person who saw Enemy, director Denis Villeneuve seeks to draw viewers deep into a web of danger, violence and corruption when his latest project Sicario lands in theaters this fall. Today Lionsgate has released a new trailer for the film, this time introducing us to its setting: the Mexican city of Juarez.

Sicario stars Emily Blunt as Kate, an idealistic FBI agent enlisted by an elite government task force official (Josh Brolin) to aid in the escalating war against drugs in the lawless border area stretching between the United States and Mexico. Led by an enigmatic consultant (Benicio del Toro) with a questionable past, the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything she believes in order to survive.

First-time screenwriter Taylor Sheridan penned the script for Villeneuve’s narco-thriller, which co-stars Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Donovan and Daniel Kaluuya. The film hits theaters September 18.
