Watch: Emily Blunt Gets More Than She Bargained For in New Trailer for ‘Sicario’

The Sicario, the new film from Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve. On the heels of that announcement, Lionsgate has released a new trailer for the film, which you can check out at the bottom of the post.

Sicario centers on the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, where idealistic FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by an elite government task force official (Josh Brolin) to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant (Benicio del Toro) with a questionable past, the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything she believes in order to survive.

Set for a September 18 theatrical release, Villeneuve’s narco-thriller bowed at the Cannes Film Festival in May to positive reviews. With two great English-language films, Prisoners and Enemy, already under his belt — in addition to Incendies, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2011 Academy Awards — I’m very curious to see what Villeneuve has in store for us here.

One other thing I should note: if the marketing is any indication of the final product, cinematographer Roger Deakins has shot the hell out of this thing. Go figure. If a picture is worth a thousand words, each frame of this trailer is worth a thousand-and-one. Check it out and see for yourself.
