“A wild blend of innocence and Coen brothers violence,” reads a pull-quote from the trailer for Cop Car, a new thriller from Focus World starring Kevin Bacon. I watched the trailer, and I know it’s just marketing and trailers are misleading and yada-yada-yada but I’m curious to see what exactly warranted such highfalutin name dropping, because what I saw was Kevin Bacon with a pushbroom mustache expecting children to understand what a “felony offense” is while yelling, “You don’t steal a cop car!” From the synopsis:
When two good-natured but rebellious young boys (James Freedson-Jackson and Hays Wellford) stumble across an abandoned cop car hidden in a secluded glade they decide to take it for a quick joyride. Their bad decision unleashes the ire of the county sheriff (Bacon) and leads to brutal consequences.
Perhaps I should give this one the benefit of the doubt considering I haven’t seen it, but it just looks silly, no matter what genre it claims to fall in or which directors’ style Jon Watts supposedly mimics. Go ahead and give the trailer a watch, tell me what you think, I thought it was a real hoot.
