The Griswolds are Back, First ‘Vacation’ Red Band Trailer

The Griswolds are back and the torch is being passed from Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo to Ed Helms and Christina Applegate as Helms plays Rusty Griswold in the new Vacation movie and here comes the film’s first red band trailer.

Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World. So, yes, it’s returning to where it all started and based on this trailer there will be more than just a few callbacks to the original films which will either play as incredibly stale or as a loving homage, but this thing is going to have to bring more to the table than simply bringing back old jokes if it hopes to land with today’s audiences.

Also in the cast are Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses 2), who plays a river rafting guide; and Skyler Gisondo (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) and Steele Stebbins (A Haunted House 2), who play Rusty’s sons, James and Kevin. Chase and D’Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold, but I have to assume their appearance will be limited, most likely to what we’re seeing here in this first trailer.

Vacation hits theaters on July 31, watch the trailer below.
