As I just noted in my most anticipated movies hitting theaters over the coming months. Starring Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix, the film is said to be one of Allen’s darker features (a la Match Point) as it takes place on a small town college campus, where a philosophy professor (Phoenix) in existential crisis gives his life new purpose when he enters into a relationship with his student (Stone).
Obviously the age difference between Stone and Phoenix (14 years) will become a media topic of discussion as will the question of “Can you separate the art from the artist?” but as someone that loves Woody Allen’s movies I have a hard time not looking forward to this one. In fact, more than just the fact it’s a Woody Allen movie, but it’s a Woody Allen movie that not only stars Stone and Phoenix, but Parker Posey as well.
Irrational Man hits theaters on July 17 after it premieres at Cannes. Watch the first trailer below.
