This new trailer for Kenneth Branagh‘s version of Cinderella made me very bewildered, which you can watch below. The trailer is only one minute long, but the juxtaposition between the wacky dialogue and the “epic” soundtrack made for a very weird watch.
I do not know what I am supposed to be feeling here. Is it funny? Is it romantic? Is it an action movie? Is it the most epic thing that has ever happened? I am not entirely sure. The trailer wants it to be all of these things, but in doing so, it is none of those things.
I am still mildly interested in seeing what Branagh and Disney do here. I have not enjoyed Branagh’s most recent efforts as a director (Thor, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), but I know he is capable of making good things. This does just look like a Disney production, unfortunately. I am not sure how much Branagh-style bombast will be here. Perhaps in Cate Blanchett‘s performance. Hopefully.
