Watch: New Trailer for ‘Escobar: Paradise Lost’, Starring Benicio Del Toro and Josh Hutcherson

At this year’s Austin Film Festival, one of the films I missed was Escobar: Paradise Lost. It was playing at the same time as The Imitation Game, and I opted to see that (and ended up enjoying it quite a bit). I did not hear the best things about this film, starring Benicio Del Toro as the famed drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, but Del Toro is such an interesting actor that I am extremely curious how he takes on this inherently interesting person.

The problem is Escobar is not the main character here. It is Nick, played by wet blanket Josh Hutcherson. I am fairly certain Hutcherson has been placed here to suck up the charm and charisma within a ten foot radius of his body, but he is still able to get work somehow. He is a big deterrent for me, but Del Toro is enough to keep me interested.

Escobar: Paradise Lost premiered its first trailer today, which you can watch below.

Young surfer Nick thinks all his dreams have come true when he visits his brother in Colombia. Against an idyllic backdrop of blue lagoons and white beaches, he falls madly in love with Maria, a beautiful Colombian girl. It all seems perfect until he meets her uncle, Pablo Escobar.
