Of the many possible Oscar contending films yet to be seen one of the most anticipated has to be Ava DuVernay‘s Selma, chronicling the three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (David Oyelowo) led a campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. Today we get our first look at the trailer for the upcoming movie which will begin hitting theaters Christmas Day.
Alongside Oyelowo, the film features a massive ensemble including Tom Wilkinson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Alessandro Nivola, Giovanni Ribisi Common, Carmen Ejogo, Lorraine Toussaint, Tim Roth and Oprah Winfrey.
The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.
