I’m not sure what the longest lead time for a press screening I’ve ever received is, but a couple days back I received word I would be seeing Angelina Jolie‘s Unbroken on December 17. Now, I haven’t looked at the BFCA timeline for this year’s Critics Choice Awards nomination deadline, so I may end up seeing it a little sooner than that, nevertheless, that’s still a ways off, but then again, so is the film’s December 25 release.
Today, however, we have the latest trailer for the movie, based on The New York Times bestselling book by Laura Hillenbrand telling the story of Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII–only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Co-starring in the film are Domhnall Gleeson, Finn Wittrock, Garrett Hedlund, Jai Courtney and Miyavi, whose name has risen among Oscar prognosticators as word of his performance in the film has started generating some buzz. A big deal I’d say considering he’s best known as a Japanese singer-songwriter and not as an actor.
