Just announced this morning, Berlin Film Festival standout ’71, directed by Yann Demange, was added to the 2014 Toronto Film Festival lineup. The pic stars Jack O’Connell whose name is one you better get used to hearing as he also stars in Angelina Jolie‘s Unbroken later this year and clearly appears to be a star on the rise.
Taking place over the course of a single night in the life of a young British soldier (O’Connell), ’71 follows his plight as he’s accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, he must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape. Paul Anderson, Richard Dormer and Sean Harris co-star.
Roadside picked the film up out of Berlin, but has yet to set a domestic release date, but it will be hitting theaters in the U.K. on October 10, thus the following international trailer. I’ve also included a few more pictures from the movie at the end of this post.
