Universal has released a first look, Olympics trailer at Angelina Jolie‘s Unbroken, the story of Louis Zamperini and his journey from Olympian to World War II prisoner of war. Narrated by Tom Brokaw this Olympics preview introduces Zamperini’s story using news reel footage alongside footage from the upcoming film, based on Laura Hillenbrand‘s book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption”.
If you don’t know the story, this is a great place to start and reason enough to look forward to the film.
[amz asin=”B003WUYPPG” size=”small”]The one thing I find interesting is the cinematography, which was handled under the careful eye of Roger Deakins. The film looks a lot like something Tom Stern or another one of Clint Eastwood‘s DPs might have shot. I wonder if Jolie was inspired by Stern’s work on Changeling and asked for something in that same vein.
The screenplay was written by Joel and Ethan Coen along with Richard Lagravanese and William Nicholson and it will hit theaters this Christmas.
The film stars Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock, John Magaro and Alex Russell.
