Watch: First Explicit ‘Nymphomaniac’ Trailer

The first full, official trailer for Lars von Trier‘s Nymphomaniac has released and to no surprise it looks like a Lars von Trier film. While the explicit nature of the film is sure to rouse the most attention, there clearly is a storyline here and it could prove to be fascinating, though talk of a five-and-a-half-hour cut does seem to be pushing the boundaries of what an audience may be able to take given the snippets we see here.

Nymphomaniac tells the story of self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), from birth to the age of 50. On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-out and multi faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.

The film co-stars Stacy Martin (as young Joe), Shia Labeouf, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Mia Goth, Jens Albinus, Severin von Hoensbroech, Uma Thurman, Peter Gilberg Cotton, Nicolas Bro, Tabea Tarbiat, Janine Romanowski, Jesper Christensen, Tania Carlin, Felicity Gilbert and Shanti Roney.

Nymphomaniac hits theaters in Denmark and Norway on Christmas Day and a January opening in France is currently planned. Magnolia holds the U.S. rights, but has yet to announce an official date.

Watch the trailer below, but be warned, this is very not safe for work and contains considerably explicit images.
