New Trailer for ‘The Book Thief’

20th Century Fox has really slow-played this year’s Oscar season, beginning with several teases of Ben Stiller‘s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, keeping Ridley Scott‘s The Counselor close to the chest and then the quiet positioning of The Book Thief on November 15. Now here’s a film with Oscar potential written all over it.

[amz asin=”0375842209″ size=”small”]Adapted from Markus Zusak’s 550-page, World War II-era novel, narrated by Death, The Book Thief tells the story of Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nélisse) from the time she is taken at age 9 to live with a foster family in a German working-class neighborhood. Liesel arrives having just stolen her first book, “The Gravediggers Handbook”, beginning a love affair with books.

Directed by Brian Percival (“Downton Abbey”), the film co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson and features a score from John Williams.

Today a new trailer for the film has arrived and if this film can live up to any measure of its pedigree, we may have a serious late contender on our hands.
