Some new pictures from Disney’s Frozen premiered late yesterday and now the first teaser trailer has arrived, giving you a first look at what I have to assume will be the Best Animated Feature winner at the 2014 Oscars if it’s anywhere near the quality of Disney’s Tangled and/or Wreck-It Ralph given the quality of this year’s animated crop thus far.
The film features the voice work of Kristen Bell as Anna as she teams with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), a mountain man with a sidekick reindeer named Sven. The two are trapped in a kingdom in eternal winter and must journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell.
The film doesn’t hit theaters until November 27 so there is still time for more animated features to step into the spotlight such as Despicable Me 2, Turbo and whatever GKIDS may have up their sleeve for this year. However, I just think Disney’s non-Pixar feature has the best shot, especially considering Monsters University is yet another Pixar film that falls short of the high bar we expect from the studio.
As for this teaser trailer, it’s more along the lines of how Fox teases their Ice Age films with Scrat as it only focuses on Sven the reindeer and a talking snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad).
