The East is the latest collaboration between Sound of My Voice director Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling. The duo co-wrote Sound of Voice and The East and like the former, The East also stars Marling, this time alongside a much larger ensemble of recognizable names including Alexander Skarsgård, Ellen Page, Toby Kebbell, Patricia Clarkson, Jason RitterJulia Ormond and Shiloh Fernandez.
In the film, Marling plays Sarah Moss, a brilliant operative for an elite private intelligence firm whose top objective is to ruthlessly protect the interests of their A-list corporate clientele. She is assigned to go undercover to infiltrate an anarchist collective known for executing covert attacks upon major corporations. Living amongst them in an effort to get closer to their members, Sarah finds herself unexpectedly torn between two worlds as she starts to fall in love with the group’s charismatic leader, finding her life and her priorities irrevocably changed.
The film played at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will hit theaters on May 31. Today the newest trailer has just dropped, give it a watch below and see what you think.
