I loved and still enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and could actually even watch the two sequels if they were playing in front of me. However, outside of the first film I didn’t think the sequels did much to add to the story as much as they simply filled the screen with more stuff instead of filling the story with added intrigue. It seemed like each new turn in the story was tacked on rather than following a natural narrative flow. And I can’t say what I have seen of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has convinced me we are looking at anything more than just another special effects heavy feature with an inconsequential ending.
This time around Captain Jack (Johnny Depp) is looking for the Fountain of Youth (big deal) and he runs into trouble with Blackbeard (Ian McShane), his daughter (Penelope Cruz) and apparently some nasty mermaids based on this new trailer. The film hits theaters on May 20, have a look at the trailer below and tell me if what you’re seeing has you convinced this will be something worth our while.
