This weekend the teaser trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom debuted with Megamind ready to prepare audiences for the sequel for what I consider one of DreamWorks’ best animated features yet.
DreamWorks has already set a May 27, 2011 release date for the film that brings back Jack Black to voice the titular Panda, better known as Po. The film begins with him living his dream as The Dragon Warrior, protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, The Furious Five — Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Monkey (Jackie Chan). But Po’s new life is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy kung fu. He must look to his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will Po be able to unlock the strength he needs to succeed.
I am not sure who is playing the villain, but Gary Oldman is voicing a character named Lord Shen, which leads me to believe that has to be him. IMDb also lists Jean-Claude Van Damme as a character named Master Croc, which sounds excellent. James Woods plays someone named Master Skunkman and even Michelle Yeoh gets in on the action as The Soothsayer.
I really liked the original and this teaser doesn’t really give us much to go on, but give it a watch nonetheless.
