Oscar Trailers: ‘Ajami’ and Animated Surprise ‘The Secret of Kells’

A few of the Oscar nominees were previously not included in the RopeofSilicon database. Today I rectified the situation by adding Foreign Language nominee Ajami and the surprise inclusion in the animated field, The Secret of Kells.

Ajami is set in the Ajami neighborhood in the Middle East and is described as taking “a brave, apolitical look at Jews and Arabs” in the area. The Secret of Kells, which doesn’t begin hitting domestic theaters until mid-March, tells the story of an Irish boy who tries to protect the national treasure from Vikings was the least known. Over at the Los Angeles Times Amy Kaufman just posted a story of how the film most no one in the critical community had seen earned an Oscar nomination as distributor GKIDS sent out e-mail and Facebook blasts and set up screenings at animation hubs such as Disney and DreamWorks and at the AMC Burbank 8, which is near a number of prominent animation offices. And it worked.
