I know I am relatively alone in finding enjoyment in both of the first two Underworld films despite how bad they actually are. A mixture of Kate Beckinsale in tight leather, vampires and blue camera filters seem to be my thing. Taking that into consideration seeing how the first trailer for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (1/23) just debuted I am not at all surprised to find myself anxious to see it, despite it’s January release date and the replacing of Beckinsale with Rhona Mitra. After all, she’s hot too so what’s the worry there?
The film is set to hit theaters on January 23 and is an origin story tracing the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
