Jake Gyllenhaal takes his life apart in the Demolition trailer
With the drama set to be the opening night film of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Fox Searchlight has just released the Demolition trailer. In the player below, you can take a first look at the new drama from Dallas Buyers Club and Wild helmer Jean-Marc Vallée, starring Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Zodiac). We’ve also added three new images to the film’s gallery, which you can check out in the viewer at the bottom of this page.
In Demolition, Davis Gyllenhaal) is a successful investment banker who struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.
Demolition is based on a Black List screenplay by Bryan Sipe.
“‘Demolition’ is such a powerful and touching story,” Vallée said in a statement when the project was first announced, “written with a strong and sincere desire to try to understand the human psyche, what makes us so unique, so special, what makes us love. This is a script of a rare quality, of a beautiful humanity.”
Although Demolition won’t hit theaters until until April 8, 2016, ComingSoon.net will be covering its debut later this week at TIFF. Check back soon for updates straight from Toronto!
