CS Video: Dan Fogelman and His Danny Collins Cast

“Kind of based on a true story a little bit,” reads the onscreen text that opens the new comedy drama Danny Collins, the directorial debut of Dan Fogelman.

Fogelman, best known for scripts to films like Tangled, Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Guilt Trip, also provides the screenplay for the new release, loosely based on fact and headlined by Al Pacino as the title character. An aging rock star who has begun to despise performing his most popular song, Collins realizes that his fame far outweighs his creative output. Soon, his life is changed forever when he receives a letter written to him by John Lennon from decades earlier, encouraging him to stay true to himself as an artist. Wondering what his life might have been had he read the letter all those years ago, Collins quits his tour and heads to New Jersey in an attempt to reconnect with his estranged son (Bobby Cannavale).

ComingSoon.net sat down with both Fogelman and Cannavale as well as Annette Bening, who plays a hotel manager who becomes the reluctant object of Collins’ affections. Find out what they have to say about crafting the drama in the player below!

Also starring Christopher Plummer and Jennifer Garner, Danny Collins arrives in theaters on March 20.
