CS Video: Pierre Morel on Directing The Gunman

This Friday sees the release of Open Road Films’ The Gunman, the latest from Taken and From Paris with Love helmer Pierre Morel. This time, Morel is directing two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn (Milk, Mystic River) in an adaptation of Jean-Patrick Manchette’s 1981 novel “The Prone Gunman” alongside a supporting cast that includes Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Ray Winstone (Beowulf, The Departed), Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Prometheus, Thor), Jasmine Trinca (Honey, Saint Laurent) and Mark Rylance (The Other Boleyn Girl, Angels and Insects).

ComingSoon.net recently had the opportunity to sit down with Morel to discuss The Gunman and you can check out what he has to say about his approach to the text in the player below.

In the film, a somewhat loose adaptation, Penn plays an international operative named Jim Terrier. Though he himself is responsible for some questionable acts in his past, Terrier is trying to make amends when he’s betrayed by his former organization, thrusting him into the middle of a deadly chase across Europe.

Catch The Gunman in theaters March 20 and, if you missed our exclusive clip featuring Penn and Elba, you can watch it right here.
