What is Suncoast about?

“Inspired by the semi-autobiographical story of a teenager (Nico Parker) who, while caring for her brother along with her audacious mother (Laura Linney), strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist (Woody Harrelson) who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time,” the synopsis reads.

In addition to Parker, Harrelson, and Linney, Suncoast also stars Cree Kawa, Ella Anderson, Daniella Perkins, Amarr, Ariel Martin, Pam Dougherty, Matt Walsh, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Scott MacArthur.

Jeremy Plager, Francesca Silvestri, Kevin Chinoy, and Oly Obst serve as producers on the movie.

Chinn is known for creating and starring in the Pop series Florida Girls. With Suncoast marking her directorial feature film debut, she’s previously written episodes of Childrens Hospital, Grandfathered, and The Mick. She also recently published a memoir, Acne, in June 2022.

Parker, meanwhile, played Sarah Miller in the first season of HBO’s The Last of Us. Having also starred in 2019’s Dumbo and 2021’s Reminiscence, she’s now attached to play Astrid in the upcoming live-action remake of How to Train Your Drago, which releases in 2025.

Suncoast is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2024. The movie begins streaming on Hulu on February 9, 2024.
