Dear David Trailer Brings Viral Horror Story to Life

Lionsgate has dropped the official Dear David trailer for its upcoming film adaptation of former Buzzfeed employee’s viral social media ghost story. The film is scheduled to make its debut on October 13 in theaters, on digital, and on VOD.

The video reimagines comic artist Adam Ellis’ real-life horror experience which went viral in 2017. After dealing with internet trolls, Adam finds himself getting haunted by a ghost of dead boy, who first appeared to him through a recurring dream.

Who’s Involved in Dear David?

Dear David is directed by Anna and the Apocalypse filmmaker John McPhail from a screenplay written by Mike Van Waes. The film stars Augustus Prew as Adam, Justin Long as Bryce, Andrea Bang as Evelyn, Rachel Wilson as Linda, Ethan Hwang as James, Tricia Black as Norris, René Escobar Jr. as Kyle Sanchez, Rachel Risen as Olive, and more.

“Shortly after comic artist Adam responds to Internet trolls, he begins experiencing sleep paralysis — while an empty rocking chair moves in the corner of his apartment,” reads the synopsis. “As he chronicles increasingly malevolent occurrences in a series of tweets, Adam begins to believe he is being haunted by the ghost of a dead child named David. Encouraged by his boss to continue the “Dear David” thread, Adam starts to lose his grip on what is online…and what is real.”

Ellis’ full Twitter thread is still available for reading, which you can check out below.

The thriller is produced by BuzzFeed Studios’ head of global content Richard Alan Reid, Jason Moring, Michael Philip, and Naysun Alae-Carew. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are serving as executive producers.
