The Eternal Daughter Trailer Shows Tilda Swinton Playing a Mother-Daughter Duo

A24 has dropped the official trailer for The Eternal Daughter, the upcoming mystery drama featuring Tilda Swinton in dual leading roles. The film had its world premiere last September at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival. It is expected to arrive in theaters on December 2.

The video shows a middle-aged daughter who’s celebrating her elderly mother’s birthday by taking her to a memorable place from her childhood. After arriving at the gloomy mansion, secrets from her mother’s early life begin to unravel.

“An artist and her elderly mother confront long-buried secrets when they return to a former family home, now a hotel haunted by its mysterious past,” reads the synopsis. “Featuring a towering, deeply moving performance by Tilda Swinton, acclaimed filmmaker Joanna Hogg’s beguiling latest film is a brilliant and captivating exploration of parental relationships and the things we leave behind.”

The Eternal Daughter is written and directed by Joanna Hogg, who previously worked with Swinton on The Souvenir and The Souvenir Part II. Joining Swinton are Joseph Mydell, Carly-Sophia Davies, and Alfie Sankey-Green.

The film is produced by Hogg, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and Emma Norton. It hails from A24, BBC Film, Element Pictures, JWH Films, and Sikelia Productions.
