Eve of the Daleks Trailer Teases Doctor Who New Year’s Special

Following the thirteenth season finale of Doctor Who, BBC America has unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming New Year’s Eve special titled Eve of the Daleks. This marks the first out of three Jodie Whittaker-led specials that had been announced as the thirteenth doctor’s final adventures before exiting the series.

The Eve of the Daleks trailer, which you can check out below along with the photos, features two individuals whose New Year’s Eve is suddenly hijacked by the Daleks who will trap them inside a time loop. Now, it’s up to the Thirteenth Doctor, Dan, and Yaz to save the two of them from extermination.

Doctor Who currently stars Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan, and John Bishop as Dan. Following Season 13, Whittaker is expected to return for her final three specials, the first of which will transmit on New Year’s Day 2022, with another later in spring 2022. Jodie’s final feature-length Special, where the Thirteenth Doctor will regenerate, will transmit in autumn 2022 as part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations.

Set to debut on January 1, 2022, Eve of the Daleks is directed by Annetta Laufer from a screenplay by Chris Chibnall. It will feature Aisling Bea (Living With Yourself), Adjani Salmon (Enterprice), and Pauline McLynn (Shameless) in guest-starring roles.

“Sarah owns and runs ELF storage, and Nick is a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve,” reads the synopsis. “This year, however, their night turns out to be a little different than planned as they find themselves joining forces with the Doctor, Dan, and Yaz in a fight against the Daleks.”

Doctor Who Season 13 was written and executive produced by Chris Chibnall, who is also serving as the showrunner. He is also expected to exit the series along with Whitaker after Season 13 and the three 2022 specials. He will then be succeeded by returning executive producer and showrunner Russell T. Davies.
