Growing Up is a Beast in Pixar’s Turning Red Teaser Trailer

Disney and Pixar have released the first teaser trailer for their newest coming-of-age animated fantasy film titled Turning Red, which hails from Oscar-winning filmmaker Domee Shi in her feature-length directorial debut. In addition, a brand new poster and first-look images have also been revealed as well as its leading voice cast that includes newcomer Rosalie Chiang and Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh.

The Turning Red teaser, which you can check out below, provides us our first footage of the new Pixar animated film. It introduces us to a young girl as she gets super anxious when she finds out that her Mom is sneakily lurking outside her school. Because of this, she uncontrollably turns into a giant red panda and is next seen crying while jumping on top of roofs while her mom tries to chase her.

Turning Red will be led by young actress Rosalie Chiang as she lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited. Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager.

The film is directed by Domee Shi, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning Pixar short Bao. She is also known as the first woman to direct a short film for the acclaimed animation studio. Shi has been a Pixar mainstay and has worked on a number of iconic films as a storyboard artist including Inside Out, Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4.
