In celebration of Best Friend’s Day, 20th Century Studios and Locksmith Animation have released the official Ron’s Gone Wrong trailer for their newest coming-of-age sci-fi animated film, featuring the voices of The Hangover vet Zach Galifianakis and Shazam! star Jack Dylan Grazer. The video begins with an introductory commercial about an advanced robot called B*Bot, which serves as a cool new friend for kids. However, unfortunately for a socially awkward teen named Barney, he receives a malfunctioning B*Bot who will cause more unintentional chaos into his life.
Ron’s Gone Wrong is scheduled to make its debut in theaters on Friday, October 22. Its current release date will see the film going up against two high-profile features such as Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch.
Ron’s Gone Wrong will feature a touching and hilarious look at the budding friendship between a middle-school boy and his faulty robot. It tells the story of Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler and Ron, his new walking, talking, digitally-connected device, which is supposed to be his “Best Friend Out of the Box.” Ron’s hilarious malfunctions, set against the backdrop of the social media age, launch them into an action-packed journey in which boy and robot come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship.
The animated comedy adventure features the voices of Zach Galifianakis (Missing Link), Jack Dylan Grazer (Luca), Olivia Colman (The Mitchells vs. The Machines), Ed Helms (The Office), Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Kylie Cantrall (Gabby Duran and the Unsittables), Ricardo Hurtado (The Goldbergs), Marcus Scribner (Black-ish), Thomas Barbusca (Chad).
Ron’s Gone Wrong is directed by Pixar veteran Jean-Philippe Vine (Cars 3, The Good Dinosaur), Locksmith co-founder Sarah Smith, and Octavio Rodriguez (Coco) from a script written by Smith and Peter Baynham. This marks first theatrical release from the U.K.-based CG animation studio Locksmith Animation. Executive producers are Smith, Baynham, and Elisabeth Murdoch, with Julie Lockhart and Lara Breay set as producers.
